I first met KB MacDonald when I was an undergrad at the University of Guelph and he was my Lab demi (as we called them) for a course I was taking in Chemistry. We could meet him at his carrel in the new McLaughlin library where we would be greeted with a friendly confident face. He would have been a grad student at that time in the early 1970s. Little did I know at that time he was from famous Teeswater where my mother, Marion Aitken and my uncles Ken and Robert had grown up on the 4th concession. When we moved to Ottawa in 1978, I ran into him again, still not making the Teeswater connection. My mother did however and she kept the clipping which I have attached, no doubt from the Teeswater News. More recently, I was at a Burns dinner and the piper was a gentleman also named MacDonald and I remarked that I knew of a piper of the same name and was surprised to learn that Bruce had indeed taught this guy. Sometimes the world seems small.
Thank you for the wonderful photo presentation which accompanies this obituary. Surely KB had a very happy and full life.
My sympathy to his family,
Bob Hawkins, Ottawa, Ontario

Dee and I are just now getting over the shock of Bruce"s passing.
I feel a bit cheated in my short time with the MacDonald's in that my gram, Irene McDonald did not introduce me to the wonderful people who became friends and mentors and welcomed me into the family.
No one more than Bruce, who helped me understand the significance of this part of clan Donald, and the rich and colorful history of the Isle of Skye.
We had the pleasure of spending extra time with Bruce and Deb after the last picnic and how vivid that time comes back to us now.
Our thoughts and prayers have continued since this sudden loss and we hope everyone can come together in love to comfort and bless each other.

Bruce was my first bagpipe teacher. We met at the Ottawa Folklore Centre around 1984 and he took me through all the basics of the instrument. Bruce was always so kind to me and everyone. He was a true gentleman and sure could play well. I am grateful for those lessons and proud of my fellow clansman. Rest In Peace Bruce. Donald Macdonald, Ottawa

Condolences to Deb and family, we are really saddened at this loss, he was a great man and always with a smile, and quick to crack a joke. Jim has a lot of fond memories of this great man, both traveling back and forth with Bruce to many band competitions. We are on vacation and won’t be back until late Sunday, our thoughts and prayers are with you all.

Such a tragic unexpected loss. Bruce and I grew up in the 1960's piping in the Goderich Pipe Band Band under Bill Millar (my father) our Pipe Major and tutor. In 1970 we teamed up again in the Guelph Pipe Band. Over the years we would met ocassionally usually at piping events. On behalf of Ann Labour ( my sister) , Edith Millar (my Mother) and myself James Millar, we extend our condolences.

So sorry to learn of Bruce's passing. As Agriculture Canada colleagues, we spent many hours on special projects related to soil management and selected research programs. Bruce was a professional in every way. He was scheduled to play the bagpipes at our daughter's wedding but found he would not be able to come a few days before. He found an excellent replacement and we were very grateful to him for making these arrangements. Our thoughts and prayers go out to all of his family and friends at this difficult time. I was shocked and greatly saddened to learn of Bruce's untimely passing this past week, and wish to extend my sincere condolences to his family.
I first met Bruce in the mid-1960s while we were both undergraduates at the Univ. of Guelph, and we both shared a love of music, as well as agriculture.
By coincidence, we both ended up working in Research Branch, Agriculture & Agri-Food Canada. I had the pleasure of working closely with Bruce for several years in the 1990s on an national environmental program, and greatly appreciated his insight and skills in organizing and managing technical information. Bruce will be remembered for his significant contributions to our understanding of the environment and how we can best manage it.

Jackie and I are so sorry to hear of Bruce's death. The MacDonald family is indebted for all the reunions he and Deborah held at the MacDonald homestead, as is our family for Bruce piping 'Covenanter's Air" and "Flowers of the Forest" at my father's funeral in 2008. It was only a couple weeks ago I communicated with Bruce to get information on 1 room schools in the Teeswater area. It's hard to believe he is gone.
God Bless David and Jackie Brisbin

My husband Brad (now deceased) and I remember many wonderful times with Bruce when he was completing graduate studies at U of G. The camaraderie in the graduate soil science lab reached far beyond the walls. There was always much laughter and a great deal of fun to lighten the more serious tasks involving experimentation and studies. Bruce used to incur the jibes of the other fellows when he would practise on the chanter of his pipes!
My condolences to Bruce's wife and family. I hope you will be comforted by many warm memories of your time with him.
